HARTFORD, CT. (THECOUNT) — An overnight fire at a Hartford, Connecticut apartment building sent dozens of people to the hospital Sunday night in the Sheldon Charter Oak section of the capital.
In all, 40 people were rescued and 30 people transported to area hospitals after a massive fire tore through a residential building on Charter Oak Place in Hartford early Sunday morning.
Fire crews were responded to the third-alarm blaze located on Charter Oak Place around 1:15 a.m. Sunday. During the ordeal, babies were thrown from windows as people trapped in the building screamed for help.
One heroic firefighter was reportedly treated for a minor injury.
The names of the victims was not provided by officials.
75 firefighters worked in conditions including high heat, zero visibility, and no lighting, reports WFSB.
Crews worked at five active scenes because fire blew out the windows, allowing flames to come out.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
