IOWA. (THECOUNT) — Following a major election debacle Monday night in Iowa that saw the Democratic Party fail to release the results of the state’s presidential caucuses, Pete Buttigieg had no issue taking to the stage to declare victory.
Speaking to his supporters at his campaign headquarters in Des Moines, Mayor Pete suggested – Rather strongly – That he had emerged with the most delegates, in a move that shocked many, and led to the hashtag “MayorCheat” to trend on Twitter Tuesday morning.
“We know, by the time it’s all said and done, Iowa, you have shocked the nation! Because by all indications, we are going on to New Hampshire victorious!”
Caucus officials said they had found “inconsistencies in the reporting” as the nation awaited the outcome of the first-in-the-nation nominating contest.
“In addition to the tech systems being used to tabulate results, we are also using photos of results and a paper trail to validate that all results match and ensure that we have confidence and accuracy in the numbers we report,” Mandy McClure, the state party’s communications director, said in a statement.
