Bobby Mahoney On Monday Mary Mahoney’s Federal Raid ‘It’s About Fish’

BILOXI, MS. (THECOUNT) — Federal agents raided historic Biloxi, Mississippi, restaurant Mary Mahoney’s Old French House early Monday morning, forcing a shuttering of their doors while authorities “inspected” the business, according to multiple reports.

While the reason for the fed’s visit is unclear, Bobby Mahoney, who owns the famous coast eatery, would only say “it’s about fish,” reports WLOX.

The investigation is being conducted by the Food and Drug Administration. The agents came from the FDA’s Criminal Office of Investigations out of Georgia. They have been inside the restaurant since around 8 a.m.

The eatery is located at, 110 Rue Magnolia in Biloxi, MS.

A sign on the door of the restaurant advised people that Mary Mahoney’s will be closed for lunch on Monday. It’s unclear how long the search will last and whether the restaurant will open in time for dinner.

According to the FDA’s website, the agency is responsible for ensuring that the nation’s seafood supply, both domestic and imported, is safe, sanitary, wholesome, and honestly labeled.

The FDA oversees 80 percent of the country’s food supply, which includes everything sold at the grocery store that isn’t raw meat, poultry, and eggs. Other food, including fish and pre-packaged foods, fall under the FDA’s jurisdiction.
