WASHINGTON, DC. (THECOUNT) — In her public hearing on Friday, Nov. 15, former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine, Marie Yovanovitch angered many, including the mother of a Benghazi‘s victim, after she invoked the victims of the U.S. Embassy in Libya attack, according to reports.

In her opening statement before the House Intelligence Committee Impeach Inquiry hearing, Yovanovitch rightfully praised the contribution and sacrifice of U.S. diplomats and public servants stationed all over the world.

“We are people who repeatedly uproot our lives, who risk and sometimes give our lives for this country. We are the 52 Americans, who, 40 years ago this month, began 444 days of deprivation, torture, and captivity in Tehran. We are the dozens of Americans stationed at our embassies in Cuba, and consulates in China whom mysteriously and dangerously, and perhaps in some cases, perhaps even permanently, were injured and attacked from unknown sources several years ago,” reports TheBL.

Yovanovitch then went on to compare herself with the U.S. diplomats that died in the attack to the U.S. Embassy in Benghazi.

“We are people who repeatedly uproot our lives, who risk and sometimes give our lives for this country … We are Ambassador Chris Stevens, Sean Patrick Smith, Ty Woods, and Glen Doherty. People rightly called heroes for their ultimate sacrifice to this nation’s foreign policy interests in Libya eight years ago. We honor these individuals.”

Her statement referencing those victims frustrated the mother of Sean Patrick Smith, who exclaimed on Laura Ingraham’s program on Fox News, “Why is she bringing that in now?” The mother dismissed her comment saying that Yovanovitch “had nothing to do with Benghazi.”

Ingraham agreed by calling Yovanovitch ‘s tying herself with those heroes a “stretch.”

Benjamin Weingarten, a senior contributor to The Federalist also echoed Ingraham’s remark in his tweet:

“Amb Yovanovitch’s invoking of those killed in Benghazi—in a bid to protect herself—during this impeachment inquiry is utterly sickening.”

A former senior national security official also pointed out Yovanovitch’s failure and deemed the fact that she linked herself with the U.S. diplomats in Benghazi a “disgrace,” according to the Breitbart news.
