Body Found In Waterville ME Basement Believed To Be Melissa Sousa

WATERVILLE, ME. (THECOUNT) — A body found in the basement of a Waterville, Maine, home at around 4 p.m. Wednesday is believed to me 29-year-old Melissa Sousa, according to Maine State Police.

Sousa had been reported missing since Tuesday morning after she was last seen dropping her twin girls off at their bus stop.

Nicholas Lovejoy, 39, was arrested late Tuesday night after officers stopped his SUV on Summer Street in Waterville.

An autopsy is expected to be conducted on a body discovered at 32 Gold Street, in Waterville, Maine.

Police say they have not officially identified the body at this time.

Coworkers said Sousa was considering leaving what they described as a violent relationship with her boyfriend, Lovejoy, reports WGME.

Police charged Lovejoy with having a loaded rifle in the car and endangering the welfare of a child because he left the children alone at their home.

Medical examiners have the body and are working on the identification and cause of death.

Though officials have not said that the body they found is Sousa, those who are close to her fear the worst.

“She told us that his big thing is ‘tick, tock, your time is coming.’ He’s said he was going to kill her. ‘I have two choices. It’s kill you or kill you.’ It was just his way of controlling her,” Sousa’s coworker Tami Tims said.

Investigators said they will return to the home on Thursday to continue their investigation.
