NFL Player Justin Bannan Charged Attempted Murder ‘Hiding’ From ‘Russians’ When Opened Fire On Female Employee ‘Cocaine Induced?’

BOULDER, CO. (THECOUNT) — Justin Bannan, a former NFL journeyman and current Colorado businessman, is facing attempted murder and assault charges after he reportedly shot a woman while at Black Lab Sports complex in Boulder on Wednesday, according to reports.

Bannan, 40, who is part-owner of the sports complex, was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder of an unidentified 36-year-old woman in Boulder, Colorado on Wednesday.

The former University of Colorado Boulder lineman is also charged with first-degree assault extreme indifference, first-degree assault with intent to cause serious bodily injury, and first-degree burglary, according to Boulder police.

Boulder police said the shooting was reported at 2:24 p.m. Wednesday at Black Lab Sports, located at 3550 Frontier Avenue, in Boulder, CO. When they arrived, police discovered a 36-year-old woman suffering from gunshot injuries.

Police determined that Bannan shot the woman randomly, hitting her in the arm. She was transported to Boulder Community Health Foothills Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

According to an affidavit, the woman went to unlock her therapy room in the building when Bannan, who was already in the room, instantly shot her in the shoulder while she was standing in the doorway.

When police located Bannan at the scene, he was carrying a bag containing two loaded handguns, along with an extra magazine. They also found a rolled-up $20 bill coated with a white substance that tested positive for cocaine.

Bannan told police he “didn’t mean to shoot her,” and that he was just hiding in the room because the Russian Mafia was after him and tracking his cell phone. He said he only fired the gun once and that it was an “accident.”

A Boulder police spokesperson said the shooting appeared to be “random,” as Bannan and the woman worked in the same building but do not appear to have any other connection and were only distantly acquainted, reports DailyCamera.

The woman said she knew Bannan, but only because she would pass him in the hall as he was the part-owner of the complex. Bannan is listed as the co-founder of Black Lab Sports, but the woman worked for a company called Element 6 that operates inside the same building but is not a part of Black Lab Sports.

There are no other victims or suspects.

Bannan remains in custody as he awaits a bond hearing this afternoon.
