Report: Joker Movie Mass Walkouts May Have Been #FakeNews

LAS VEGAS, NV. (THECOUNT) — “Controversial movie Joker has raised concern after fans filed out of theaters worldwide following the film’s global release this weekend,” that’s the way we started off our Friday article that was based on a breaking Daily News story also published on Friday.

The Daily News article claimed moviegoers worldwide filed out of Joker theaters in protest of the flick’s disturbing imagery, gratuitous violence and use of firearms. But as we are now learning, it’s hard to find anyone to backup the exodus claim.

Daily Mail wrote Friday:

“Among a flurry of messages on the microblogging site, one fan wrote: ‘Literally just walked out of a screening of Joker. Way too terrifying to be there with all this going on the way the movie glamorizes gun violence and mental health issues.'”

The online UK based news giant then posted the following “Joker moviegoer tweets” to bolster their claims of the mass walkouts:

Users penned: ‘Just walked out of #Joker. Haven’t been that anxious in a movie theater since GOOD TIME. F**k man…

‘I’ve never walked out of a movie but with Joker I came very close… Would have walked out of the joker after an hour if the missus would have let me! #dontdoitfolks

‘If I didn’t see Joker with a friend I probably would’ve walked out of the theater thinking someone should tell Trump to shut up… White dude next to me walked out of Joker in the last few minutes of the movie had me a little shook not gonna lie…

‘I walked out of this movie #Joker BAN THIS MOVIE!! It’s a psychological approach on the mind! I was rooting for him until s**t got real… Oh man…

Sounds bad. But when we looked on Twitter, we could not locate a single person who was prompted to exit a Joker theater and conversely, the reviews we’re almost all gushing and steller.

After we posted our story that was based on the information in the Daily Mail story, we started getting social media pushback from annoyed fans who claimed the news of the walkout was not news at all and more of a mass media propaganda hit piece.

Here’s the tweet that started it all:

Then came the pushback:

Leave it to the Joker..
