RACINE, WI. (THECOUNT) — David Cunningham has been identified as the Racine, WI, man arrested in the attempted homicide of his former girlfriend Sunday night.
Cunningham’s unidentified girlfriend is fighting for her life at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee after she was allegedly shot in the head by Cunningham Sunday night.
Officers with the Racine Police Department were called at 9:01 p.m. to Bate Street near Taylor Avenue. Once on scene, they found the woman suffering from a gunshot wound, according to a press release by the Racine Police Department.
Cunningham, 28, was arrested by the Racine Police Department for attempted first-degree homicide and felony possession of a firearm, according to court records.
The Racine County District Attorney’s Office has not officially issued charges. However, family members confirmed that the woman had recently broken up with Cunningham and that he was the suspect in the case. The woman’s name has not been released by the officials with the Racine Police Department. The Racine County Eye is withholding that information at this time out of respect for the family, reports RacineCountyEye.
A family member told the Racine County Eye Sunday night that she was taken by Flight for Life to Froedtert Hospital where she has undergone surgery.
Hospital officials told the police on Monday that the woman has “a 50% chance of survival,” according to a story by Fox 6.
Another family member told the Racine County Eye that several witnesses have yet to come forward.
