HIGH POINT, NC. (THECOUNT) — Lavoya M. McClain, of High Point, North Carolina, has been identified as the suspect arrested after allegedly intentionally running over another woman in a vehicle and then fleeing the scene early Saturday morning in High Point, according to police.
McClain, 24, was charged with first-degree murder and felony hit and run after Natavia S. Currie, 23, of High Point, was found suffering from serious blunt force trauma injuries from an apparent vehicle strike near 725 S. Scientific Street, in High Point.
First responders unsuccessfully attempted to administer life saving procedures on Currie and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived.
Witnesses told police that McClain intentionally hit Currie after a verbal argument escalated, reports MyFox8.
McClain later turned herself to officials hours later.
She was arrested and placed in Guilford County Jail under a no bond order.
The vehicle used in the assault was seized and processed as evidence.
