Detroit Metro Airport CLOSED Amid Winter Weather, Plane Skids Off Runway Fort Wayne International

DETROIT, MI. (THECOUNT) — The Detroit Metropolitan Airport is completely closed due to winter weather, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

In a related weather story, a Delta flight taking off from Indiana, Fort Wayne International Airport, slid off the runway Tuesday night due to ice forming on “painted areas of the runway,” according to officials.

Officials said conditions appeared to be good for Delta flight 3526 to take off, but ice forming on the painted areas of the runway caused the plane to slide off the runway into a snowbank, reports WTHR.

Fifty-one people were on the flight when the accident occurred. No injuries were reported.

Airport operations were delayed while crews got everyone off the plane.
