9/11 Survivor Jason Spindler ID’d As ME Marine Killed In Kenya Terror Attack

NAIROBI, KENYA. (THECOUNT) — Jason Spindler, a graduate of Hebron Academy, in Maine, has been identified as the marine killed in a terror attack in Kenya.

Spindler, who according to the Oxford County school graduated in 1996, was traveling as a businessman in Kenya when the deadly attack occurred Wednesday. According to family members, the I-DEV International CEO had survived the 9/11 terror attacks.

Kenya’s security forces have killed the Islamic extremist gunmen whose assault on a luxury hotel and shopping complex took 14 “innocent lives,” including Spindlers, WGME reported Wednesday.

“All the terrorists have been eliminated,” President Uhuru Kenyatta said in announcing an end to the overnight operation to secure the complex in the capital, Nairobi.

In a televised address, Kenyatta did not say how many attackers were involved. He said more than 700 people were evacuated during the security operation and urged Kenyans to “go back to work without fear,” saying the East African country is safe.

Spindler was the CEO and Managing Director of I-DEV International.

Spindler lead I-DEV’s global team, vision, and strategy, according to reports.

According to his bio, he had more than a decade of experience in venture capital investing, business management, and industry development in both traditional businesses and at the base of the pyramid (BoP).

He had been recognized as a leader in the impact investing and social entrepreneurship sectors and is a former recipient of the prestigious Reynolds Fellowship for Social Innovation and the Helton Global Human Rights Fellowship for his innovative work in sustainable economic development and BoP business creation.

Spindler had in the past advised Ashoka, Acumen Fund, the Inter-American Development Bank, GiZ, and many other organizations on BoP business initiatives.
