LOUISVILLE, KY. (THECOUNT) — Ki’Anthony Tyus, the Kentucky boy who made Louisville headlines in 2015 after he survived being shot in the leg while playing basketball at Ballard Park, has been killed in a crash involving a police vehicle Saturday night, according to reports.
Tyus, 13, was identified as the juvenile passenger killed in the I-65 Saturday crash of a stolen SUV Saturday night, reports say.
Police officers attempted to to pull over a stolen SUV on I-65 Saturday night near Crittenden Drive when the driver swerved toward officers causing them to collide.
Moments later, the stolen SUV crashed into a utility pole on Fern Valley Road.
A police report said the vehicle was occupied five times at the time of the crash, four of victims were juveniles, according to the report.
Tyus was pronounced dead at the scene of multiple blunt force trauma injuries consistent with the violent crash.
An 18-year-old was transported to an area hospital and was last listed in critical condition.
Since 2015, Tyus was an advocate for victims of gun violence, meeting with Lt. Gov. Jenean Hampton and Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer. source
