COLUMBIA, TN. (THECOUNT) — Kamondrez Carlton has been identified as the victim of a Friday shooting near Spring Hill High School, according to the Columbia Police Department.
Carlton, 21, was found suffering from at least one gunshot wound after entering a Quick Mart 34, located at 2577 Nashville Highway.
Officials arrested 20-year-old D-Qwaun Dalton in the fatal shooting. He was taken in custody and charged with second-degree murder and aggravated assault resulting in death, according to reports.
Police said the investigation showed the shooting occurred at a residence on Daniel Court, located in a neighborhood behind Spring Hill High School.
Carlton was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead of gunshot injuries.
In a statement issued from Maury County Public Schools Saturday:
“Law enforcement recommended we lockdown the high school,” said Kim Doddridge, a spokesperson for Maury County Public Schools. source
No students were involved in the incident, the school district confirmed.
The Columbia Police Department continues to investigate the case.
