MO Man Demario Bass ID’d As Victim In Weds Fatal North St. Louis Officer-Involved Shooting

ST. LOUIS, MO. (THECOUNT) — The suspect in an officer-involved shooting in north St. Louis Wednesday has been identified as Demario Bass.

Bass, 29, was shot dead in an incident that occurred after police were called to the intersection of Goodfellow & Lillian, in St. Louis, MO, around 1 p.m. Wednesday.

During the shooting, the suspect was shot in the chest and an officer was injured.

Police made the following comments during a press conference:

The incident started after a license plate reader notified the Real Time Crime Center about a vehicle that had been stolen a couple days ago. Two officers on patrol responded to where the vehicle was spotted. The driver of the vehicle pulled into a gas station where the passenger officer confronts the driver. During this time, the door is open, and the officer stands between the door and the suspect.

The car then accelerates in reverse and the officer was caught in between the door and the car. The car eventually crashed, and the officer fell to the ground – sometime during the incident the officer discharged his gun and struck the suspect. source

The suspect was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead of gunshot injuries.

The officer was transported to a hospital and suffered a ‘significant head injury,’ Chief Hayden said. Police have not identified the officer, but said he is 31 years old and has been with the department for two years.

Official did not comment on if Bass was in possession of a firearm.
