OMAHA, NE. (THECOUNT) — Omaha police say eight people were taken to a hospital for evaluation, one individual in serious condition and another in critical condition, following a mandatory evacuation at the First National Bank Tower in downtown Omaha due to a strong odor in the building, officials said.
A spokesperson for First National told local press that maintenance crews were working on the humidifier system when the fumes were detected shortly after 10 a.m.
The spokesperson said several employees were complaining of feeling nauseous and sick. At first, officials evacuated the first 17 floors of building but eventually made the decision to evacuate the entire building. source
The cause of the odor or exactly what sickened the victims has not yet been determined.
The Omaha Fire Department is on scene now testing air quality.
