WESTVILLE, OK. (THECOUNT) — Stephanie Smith has been identified as the Oklahoma woman killed after her vehicle was struck head-on in Westville by another driver who claims to have fell asleep at the wheel on Thursday.
The violent crash also injured a 6-year-old child who was a passenger in Smith’s vehicle. Thankfully, she is expected to recover.
The crash occurred around 3 p.m. Thursday after emergency crews were dispatched to reports of a crash along Hwy 59, just south of Westville.
Investigators say they determined 35-year-old Justin Sequichie was operating a 2001 Acura southbound on Hwy 59, when he crossed center lines, entered northbound lanes and struck Smith’s 2006 Honda Civic head-on.
Sequichie later told police that he “fell asleep,” while operating his vehicle.
Authorities say the driver of the Acura, 35-year-old Justin Sequichie, told troopers that he fell asleep and crossed into oncoming traffic. The driver of the Civic, 40-year-old Stephanie Smith, tried to swerve to avoid the Acura, but was still hit head-on. Officials say Smith was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she died from her injuries. A 6-year-old child who was a passenger in Smith’s vehicle was also rushed to the hospital, but is expected to recover. source
