MI Man Who Died While Taken In Custody Monday By Berrien Springs Police Identified

BERRIEN SPRINGS, MI. (THECOUNT) — Jack Clement Lunneen, of Berrien Springs, has been named as the suspect who died while he was in the process of being taken in custody by the Berrien Springs-Oronoko Township police Monday morning.

Police say, Lunneen, 51, resisted arrest and had to be restrained by officers. A short time later, officers called for an ambulance reporting the suspect was, “experiencing medical difficulties.”

Lunneen was transported to an area hospital where he later passed away of unknown causes.

At around 1:24 a.m., officers were called to an address on West Union Street for a property destruction complaint. Lunneen was spotted in the area while officers were talking with the caller. A Berrien County sheriff’s deputy located Lunneen in the parking lot of the Fifth Third Bank on Cass Street.

A short time later, officers called for an ambulance because Lunneen was “experiencing medical difficulties.” He was taken to an area hospital, where he died. source

The Berrien Springs-Oronoko Twp. officer and the Berrien County Sheriff’s deputy have been placed on paid administrative leave, per protocol. The investigation is being referred to an outside agency.

Berrien Springs is a village in Berrien County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,800 at the 2010 census. The village is located within Oronoko Charter Township. Berrien Springs is best known for its Seventh-day Adventist community and Andrews University, according to Wikipedia.
