RENO, NV. (THECOUNT) — Derrick Thomas, of Sparks, NV, has been identified as the victim killed Sunday night in a crash on I-580 on Sunday, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
Thomas, 27, was operating a Dodge Dart headed south on I-580 near Mill Street, in Reno, NV, when the fatal crash occurred.
The preliminary investigation indicates Thomas was driving next to a Subaru Impreza Wagon that was also headed south in the next lane.
As the Dodge Dart continued southbound, a flatbed truck towing a Flashing Arrow Board trailer was stopped on the inside shoulder, part of a setup for traffic control. The left front of the Dodge hit the trailer and then the flatbed, as well as the left side of the Subaru. source
The Dodge stopped across the travel lanes with Thomas inside. Troopers say an improperly restrained child in the Subaru sustained minor injuries. Several additional vehicles struck debris that was on the highway as a result of the initial crash.
Thomas was pronounced dead at the scene of blunt force trauma injuries consistent with the collision.
