GREENVILLE, SC. (THECOUNT) — Joseph Matthew Irby, of Greenville, SC, has been identified as the man struck and killed while operating a moped Saturday night in Greenville.
Irby, 40, died in a crash occurring Saturday night around 8:30 p.m. on Easley Bridge Road, near the intersection of 4th Avenue in Greenville County, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Troopers say Irby was struck by the driver of an SUV while traveling north on Easley Bridge Road when the driver attempted to perform a left hand turn onto 4th Avenue.
The coroner said Joseph Matthew Irby, 40, driving a 2017 moped, collided with the vehicle and was ejected. source
Irby was not wearing a helmet during the crash, the coroner said.
He was pronounced dead at the scene of blunt force trauma consistent with the collision.
The driver of the SUV was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.
The coroner and the Highway Patrol are investigating.
