CHARLOTTE COUNTY, VA. (THECOUNT) — Virginia State Police are reporting one man has died and an adult woman is missing after being swept away in floodwaters in Charlotte County on Thursday.
Three people became trapped inside a vehicle that was disabled by raging floodwaters. Upon arrival, first responders found the stranded vehicle and three victims desperately clinging to the bridge railings, police said.
Police said the two adults were swept away in the rushing flood waters before deputies could reach them. A 17-year-old male was pulled to safety.
State Police said their Aviation an Search and Recovery Team drivers returned to Mt. Harmony Road to assist the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office with ongoing search efforts for the missing woman.
They said state police responded to Charlotte County around 7:30 p.m. Thursday, October 12 for a vehicle that was stranded in high water on a bridge along Mt. Harmony Road. The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office was able to pull one of the occupants, a 17-year-old male, to safety. source
Overnight the remains of the adult male were recovered, but the search continues for the adult female.
