LONDON, UK. (THECOUNT) — Chas & Dave singer Chas Hodges has died aged 74, according to a statement shared the duo’s Twitter page.
“It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of our very own Chas Hodges. Despite receiving successful treatment for oesophageal cancer recently, Chas suffered organ failure and passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early hours of this morning.”
Hodges had worked with the producer Joe Meek, as a session musician, backing Jerry Lee Lewis & Gene Vincent, and has also played with Mike Berry and ‘The Outlaws‘ along with Ritchie Blackmore, and Cliff Bennett and the Rebel Rousers, which had Mick Burt on drums. He then joined Albert Lee‘s band Heads Hands & Feet before playing with Dave Peacock and Albert in Black Claw. He also played piano for a short-lived band called The Rockers, which featured Roy Wood, Phil Lynott and John Coghlan, according to Wikipedia. source

Chas, whose full name was Charles, “passed away peacefully” in his sleep in the early hours of Saturday, according to a statement on their website.
The statement continued: “We would like to thank our fans for their fantastic support and goodwill at this difficult time.”
