HELEN, GA., (THECOUNT) — Gary Phillip Freeman Jr., of Troy, Alabama, has been identified as the body found floating the the Chattahoochee River in Helen, GA., Friday.
White County 911 center GA., authorities say they received a call around 10:30 a.m. from a concerned tourist who said they observed a dead man in the Chattahoochee River. Upon arrival, a male victim was pulled from the river and later identified as 42-year-old Freeman, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation reported.
Authorities believe Freeman was visiting the area when the death occurred.
Freeman was found submerged in the river by a tourist in the area near Brucken Strasse, a road in Helen that crosses the river at two points, the GBI said in a news release. source
An autopsy will be conducted by the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office on Saturday, June 30.
