ANNAPOLIS, MD. (THECOUNT) — The gunman who shot and killed at least five people and several others wounded at the offices of the Capital Gazette newspaper in Annapolis, MD, on Thursday, has been identified as Jarrod Ramos.
The victims were identified as Wendi Winters, Rebecca Smith, Robert Hiaasen, Gerald Fischman and John McNamara. Smith was a sales associate at the newspaper. The other four were journalists.
Four of the victims died at the scene. One died after being treated at a hospital trauma center.
The suspect is in custody. Various media outlets have identified him as Ramos, 38, who made a defamation claim in court against the newspaper in 2012. The court found in favor of the paper in that case.
Police have not yet confirmed Ramos’ identity.
