WAUKEE, IA. (THECOUNT) — Shessla Whitlow has been identified as the woman who died in an area hospital after driving her vehicle into a Waukee detention pond.
Whitlow, 38, was traveling eastbound on Hickman Road near Stiver’s Ford, when her vehicle veered off the road and into a nearby detention pond. Witnesses, members of the Waukee Fire Chief and a Waukee Police Sergeant worked to successfully extricate her from the submerged vehicle.
CPR was performed at the scene, and Whitlow was transported to an area hospital.
She was later pronounced dead.
Officials are not sure how the woman lost control, but witnesses said they believe she had a medical emergency. source
An autopsy is scheduled for June 28 at the Polk County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine a possible cause for the accident as well as the official cause of death.
