‘Nightcall’ Musician Kavinsky Found Dead Tuesday In Paris

PARIS, FRANCE (THECOUNT)Kavinsky, the French electronic music artist whose hit song “Nightcall” gained worldwide fame through the 2011 film “Drive,” was found dead Tuesday evening at his home in Paris. He was 50.

Paris, France’s capital city and cultural center, was home to the musician, whose distinctive synthwave sound helped define a generation of electronic music and earned him international acclaim.

French authorities identified the artist as Vincent Belorgey, who performed professionally under the name Kavinsky.

The Paris prosecutor’s office confirmed that Kavinsky was discovered deceased at his residence Tuesday evening. Officials have opened an investigation to determine the cause of death.

Authorities said first responders did not consider the death to be suspicious. No additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding his death have been released.

An official cause of death has not yet been announced.

Kavinsky rose to international prominence with “Nightcall,” which became synonymous with director Nicolas Winding Refn’s critically acclaimed film “Drive,” starring Ryan Gosling. The song remains one of the most recognizable electronic music tracks of the last two decades.

More recently, Kavinsky performed during the Closing Ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games alongside Belgian singer Angèle, delivering a rendition of “Nightcall” before a global audience.

French Culture Minister Catherine Pégard described the musician as one of France’s “most singular voices,” saying his music would continue to resonate across generations and across borders.

French President Emmanuel Macron also paid tribute to the artist, writing on social media that Kavinsky would remain “forever a source of French pride.”

The investigation into the musician’s death remains ongoing. French authorities have not indicated when additional information regarding the cause and manner of death may become available.
