BENTON COUNTY, IA (THECOUNT) — Cedar Rapids men, 21-year-old Jeremie Mvemba and 39-year-old Michou Mayola, were named as the victims in a double-fatal head-on collision Monday morning in Benton County, repots the Iowa State Patrol.
According to an accident report, Mvemba and Mayola were traveling with three others westbound on U.S. 30 near 19th Rd Central City, NE., at about 5:30 a.m., when the driver of the vehicle, Guetty Otshumbe, crossed center lines and collided head-on with a semi truck.
Mvemba and Mayola were pronounced dead at the scene.
Osthumbe, 45-year-old Jean-Claude Shako, and 32-year-old Jeannette Elese, all of Cedar Rapids, suffered injuries and were taken to area hospitals. source
The semi driver, 71-year-old Paul Jarrett, of Waukee, was also injured in the crash and taken to a hospital.
The crash remains under investigation.
