‘Biggest Part of Me’ ‘How Much I Feel’ Ambrosia ‘Hammond B3 King’ Christopher North Dies

LOS ANGELES, CA. (THECOUNT) — Christopher North, founding keyboardist of the rock band Ambrosia, has died, according to a statement released by the group on Monday. The Los Angeles-based band confirmed his passing in a post shared to social media.

North was 75.

Nicknamed, “The Hammond B3 King,” North was a key figure in the formation of Ambrosia, which was established in 1970 in Southern California. The group, known for blending progressive rock with pop influences, was formed alongside vocalist and guitarist David Pack, bassist Joe Puerta, and drummer Burleigh Drummond. The band would go on to achieve commercial success through the 1970s and 1980s.

In its statement, the band reflected on North’s musicianship and stage presence, describing him as a performer remembered for his intensity and distinctive keyboard style. The group credited his contributions with helping shape their sound during their most prominent years.

No official cause of death has been publicly released.

According to the band, North experienced health challenges in recent years, including a prior diagnosis of throat cancer, which they described as a battle he fought successfully. In addition, he was hospitalized in 2023 after being struck by a vehicle while walking. That incident was referenced in an earlier public update shared by Pack.

North initially departed Ambrosia in 1977 but later returned to collaborate with the group during periods tied to some of its most recognizable material. Among the songs associated with the band during its commercial peak are “Biggest Part of Me,” “How Much I Feel” and “You’re the Only Woman (You & I),” all of which receive significant airplay to this day.

Ambrosia, formed in the Los Angeles area, gained a following for its polished sound and musical versatility, drawing from progressive rock, soft rock, and pop genres. North’s keyboard work—particularly on piano and organ—was a defining component of the band’s overall musical identity during its early and later periods.

The band’s statement emphasized that North’s contributions extended beyond individual performances, noting his role in shaping the group’s recorded output and live shows over multiple decades. His involvement in the band’s early formation and later reunions placed him among the core contributors to Ambrosia’s enduring catalog.

No additional details regarding funeral arrangements or memorial services have been publicly released.
