A Lake Providence man is dead and several of his family members critically injured after an incident involving the mixing of unknown substances at a Louisiana residence Monday night.
Roosevelt Jones, 60, was killed, and his wife and one daughter are left in critical condition, after attempting to mix unidentified chemicals at his Lake Providence home Monday evening, said the East Carroll Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said they were called to the 100 block of Elm Street. That’s where they believe Jones was mixing chemicals that, when combined, became an explosive concoction.
Deputies said five people were home at the time. Roosevelt Jones passed away shortly after 8 p.m. Jones’ wife and one daughter are in critical condition. Investigators say two other children were in the home at the time, but they were not affected. source
Louisiana State Police is investigating the case. They are trying to figure out what chemicals were used and what Jones’ could have been doing.
Jones was a basketball and football officiant. He also helped organize the Lake Providence Stingers basketball team.
For now, an environmental specialist is trying to determine what type of chemicals killed Jones.
