CADDO PARISH, LA. (THECOUNT) — A driver is dead after a wreck that happened just after 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 11. According to the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office, a full-size pickup truck was traveling south on Shreveport Blanchard Highway (LA 173), in Shreveport, Louisiana, when the driver, 27-year-old Jacob Jerome, veered off the road and entered a ditch. This caused the truck to flip multiple times before landing on a metal fence.
Jerome was pronounced dead on the scene by Caddo Fire District 1 at 9:54 p.m. The cause of the accident is still under investigation, with officials looking into the possibility of speed, road conditions, or any mechanical failure that might have contributed to the incident.

Following his tragic death, Jerome’s wife, Mick Normandin, has released a statement:
“Such a tragedy and such a precious life lost. Jacob is one of the most kind souls to walk this earth. He was devoted to being a loving husband to his wife Mick and a caring, incredible father to his 19-month-old son Hudson and his 3-month-old daughter Josie. We are so deeply distraught by this news,” says Mick Normandin.
This accident has left a significant impact on the local community, highlighting the sudden and often unpredictable nature of road accidents. The Shreveport Blanchard Highway, where the accident occurred, is known for its stretches of rural road with limited lighting and potentially hazardous conditions after dark, which might have played a role in this tragedy.
The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office is conducting a thorough investigation, which includes analyzing the scene, vehicle wreckage, and gathering any available witness statements or video evidence from nearby residents or passing vehicles. They are urging anyone with information to come forward to help clarify the events leading up to the accident.
The loss of Jacob Jerome has also sparked conversations about road safety, particularly on highways like LA 173. Advocates for road safety are calling for improved lighting, better signage, and perhaps even speed enforcement measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Community members have come together to support the Jerome family during this difficult time. Memorials and fundraisers are being organized to help Mick Normandin and her children, Hudson and Josie, cope with their loss and the financial burdens that might follow.
