Police in Warren, Michigan made a grisly discovery Tuesday while performing a welfare check.
Officers say when they entered the home they found a 68-year-old man dead in his bed. The body, which was badly decomposed, may have been dead for as long as a year, police said.
The dead man’s girlfriend has been living alongside his body at the home on Burgundy Street, police said.
Medical examiners said it could take a while to determine how the man died due to the stage of decomposition.
“Sometimes she would sit in her car after she got home,” a neighbor said. “I had a weird feeling, but I get weird feelings always seeing her coming and going, but never seeing him.” source
While interviewing the woman, police say she admitted to living with her boyfriend, but never mentioned the man was dead.
Police are waiting on an autopsy to nail down a timeline, cause of death and when the man died.
Officials transported the woman to an area hospital for a mental evaluation.
