Stephanie Houle has been named as the North Carolina woman arrested by the Kingsport police following an overnight crash that left one man dead.
Gregory A. Sturgill, 44, was killed after Houle, 40, ran a red light in a stolen Ford Ranger and struck his 2002 Hyundai. The truck was reported stolen out of Mars Hill, NC.
The impact caused the car to spin off the road and into a building.
Sturgill was pronounced dead at the scene.
After crashing into Sturgill, Houle crawled out the back window of the wrecked truck and ran to a nearby home. Police said she knocked on the door and when the homeowner answered, she ran inside. The resident then called police.
The crash happened around 12:30 a.m. on Thursday at the intersection of East Center Street and East Sevier Avenue in Kingsport.
Houle, of Alexander, NC, was charged with vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of a crash resulting in death, driving under the influence, driving on a suspended license, motor vehicle theft, assaulting an officer, and resisting arrest. source
KPD said responding officers had to use a Taser to get Houle into custody and, during the struggle, she assaulted an officer.
At the jail, KPD say she performed poorly on field sobriety tests.
