Bonded Out KS YMCA “KidZone” Employee Accused Of Raping Child Rearrested In Wichita

TheCount.com has learned, Caleb Gaston, the 21-year-old former YMCA KidZone employee who bonded out of jail after being accused of raping a 4-year-old, was again arrested, according to jail records. It is unclear why he was taken back in custody.

Gaston, 21, is accused of taking liberties with a four-year-old girl while working in the “Kidzone” of the Greater Wichita YMCA. Gaston was caught on security cameras while in the commission of the crimes. Reports say officials have reached out to the parents of at least two others who may have also been abused.

Gaston was booked back into the Sedgwick County jail on a no-bond order. His existing charges enhanced to aggravated indecent liberties with a child.

Gaston was allowed to bond out of jail earlier this week.

Tuesday night, the Greater Wichita YMCA sent a letter to its members , explaining safety measures, its screening process for new employees and steps it’s taking moving forward after Gaston’s arrest. The organization, in part, says it is now implementing daily sex offender registry (SOR) checks. source

New information is emerging stating Gaston has already had several “previous allegations” leveled against him, which where not detected in an employment check performed by YMCA.

Gaston’s previous incidents may not have shown up on standard background checking because of a pending status, reports say.

Representative Chuck Weber says there should be some way to make people aware when a report like the prior accusation against Gaston is made.

“I would be in favor of looking at legislation that would at least let parents and caregivers know that some suspicion, that some incident was reported against a particular person,” Weber says.

Representative John Carmichael says while we all want kids to be safe, we also have to balance that concern while maintaining some level of privacy.

“Here is the difficulty – not all reports of child abuse are in fact legitimate,” Carmichael says. “Some are fabricated for various reasons and the unfortunate fact that a mere circumstance that someone filed a report or a suspicion, should not tarnish good people’s careers in childcare or in any other endeavor.”
