TN Shooting Victim Finds Buddy Dead In Vehicle – Body Eluded Police For 49 Days On MPD LOT

Safe to say, the Memphis Police Department has a lot of explaining to do.

A Tennessee man is speaking out on a grisly find he made while retrieving his vehicle from an MPD impound lot. “Pablo” spent more than month in the hospital after he and his buddy were ambushed while visiting a Binghampton apartment complex on Dec. 18.

Two weeks after Pablo was discharged from the hospital he instructed family members to retrieve his vehicle from the MPD impound lot. The same vehicle involved in the shooting incident.

“It’s kind of a shock for me. I still can’t believe what happened,” said Pablo, who was only identified by his first name.

Pablo is not shocked by the bad memories his vehicle will surely bring back. He’s shocked because family members discovered his buddy, who was with him on the night of the incident, dead in the back of the vehicle.

Did we mention the vehicle spent 49 days at the Memphis police impound lot?

“We opened the doors, but we never smelled anything right. So it just kind of surprised me really,” Pablo said.

Pablo told reporters he made it very clear to investigators there were three people in the car.

“The investigator came to the hospital to ask me some questions. I kind of explained it to him they were two different people with me,” he said.

Police Director Mike Rallings is telling a completely story.

“He only advised that he and victim number two were in the vehicle when the shooting occurred,” Rallings said. “So, that is also part of the investigation. But preliminary investigation from reviewing his statements and body worn camera footage contradicts that and that is not the case.” source

Either way, it’s a colossal embarrassment for Memphis police.

So what if police had located the man in the back of a vehicle in a timely manner? Could his life have been saved?

“Great question,” Rallings said. “We are waiting on the results of the autopsy from the Medical Examiner’s office.”

“It’s messed up, and I’m very disappointed,” Pablo said. “I’m very disappointed.”

Officials say they have opened an internal investigations into the incident and plan an examination of overall policy.
