Police Had Chance In 2016 To Deter Sick MI Couple Now Wanted In 4 Year Old’s Death

TheCount.com has learned, a Michigan couple who are now the subject of a manhunt in the death of a 4-year-old girl, were visited by police over a disturbing domestic dispute call in 2016.

Today, Candice Diaz, 24, and Brad Fields, 24, are considered prime suspects in the girl’s death after police responded to a morning 911 call for an unresponsive child. Officials on-scene observed the little girl not breathing and suffering from “obvious severe burns about her extremities.” CPR was administered but nothing could be done to save her.

There may have been however a chance to save the girl back in May of 2016 when police were called to a domestic dispute at the same Rawsonville Woods residence. Upon arrival, police found conditions so deplorable, it is baffling as to why no action was taken to remove the child, who was only 2 at that time.

When police arrived in 2016, they first encountered a dog inside the residence alive, but suffering from a gunshot wound. Diaz told police that her boyfriend, Fields, shot her dog, and himself in the leg to show to her that she could not “outrun these bullets.”

He also “punched her several time(s) in the head” and “smashed her cell phone so she couldn’t call the police, Diaz claimed.

Once inside the home, police reported a foul odor, saying they found old garbage, decaying food and dog urine inside, that there was dog feces in the children’s room and flies throughout the house. Police also found multiple crack pipes and a gas mask, several knives, ammunition and multiple firearms. source

Later on, Candice Diaz would tell police that the weapons were hers and that she tried to file down one of the gun’s serial numbers – a felony.

Diaz was charged and ultimately sentenced to probation. Stunningly, police decided to file no charges against Fields in the case.

The dog’s condition is unknown.

On Jan. 2, 2017, the Washtenaw County Medical Examiner ruled the little girl’s death as a homicide, enhanced by evidence of multiple traumatic injuries and signs of Battered Child Syndrome.

A manhunt is currently underway for Diaz and Fields. They are believed to be driving a black 2002 Chevy Cavalier bearing Michigan license plate DTR 1854.

Police say an arrest warrant has been approved for Diaz and Fields on the charges of felony murder, second degree murder, first degree child abuse and torture. They should be considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information on the case is urged to contact police.
