5 TN CARTA Employees Injured After Man Attacks With “Unknown” Liquid Burning Face

Hazmat crews responded to a frightening incident outside the CARTA headquarters on Wilcox Blvd Tuesday morning after five Chattanooga Area Regional Transportation Authority employees were attacked while walking to work by a man who threw a caustic liquid on them.

One woman, said to the “target” of the attack, was struck in the face with the unknown substance. She reportedly suffered burns to her face and was transported to a nearby hospital, according to the Chattanooga Fire Department.

Five victims in total were injured and all are CARTA employees. The employees were walking to work when the suspect threw the substance. The liquid was tested on the scene and found to be non-life threatening and was sent for further testing. source

15 CFD companies responded to the scene including a contingent of Hazmat crews and Chattanooga Fire Department. Nearby streets are reported after being closed during the investigation.

Police are seeking a male suspect in the incident which is an aggravated assault.
