(VIA) The BBC has come under fire for a misleading headline about dead Palestinians which neglects to mention that said Palestinians died in the process of attacking an Israeli police officer.
According to The Times of Israel, the Israeli police officer died following the attack, which occurred last night.
The outlet describes the incident as “a coordinated stabbing and shooting terror attack in two areas near Jerusalem’s Old City.”
The police officer, 23-year-old Hadas Malka, was reportedly attacked while responding to the shooting portion of the attack, which was carried out by one Palestinian terrorist with a gun accompanied by a second with a knife.
After being stabbed in the upper torso by a third Palestinian terrorist en route to the scene, Malka underwent emergency surgery but later died.
The Times of Israel reports that “at least four more people were injured in the attacks, including another cop.”
All three attackers were “neutralized.”
The BBC subsequently ran with the headline “Three Palestinians killed after deadly stabbing in Jerusalem,” which is technically true but very unfortunately phrased.
It didn’t take long for the BBC’s mentions to explode with backlash and mockery over the headline.
As for the BBC’s article itself, its account of the incident appears to match The Times of Israel’s.
Its lede reads, “Israeli police have shot dead three Palestinians after a deadly knife attack outside the Old City of Jerusalem, in which a policewoman died.”
