Thornton police have arrested a 15-year-old boy in the death of 10-year-old Kiaya Campbell. The boy is said to be the son of the father’s girlfriend. Kiaya was last seen going on a walk with the boy.
“Last night at 11:38 pm, Thornton Police Detectives arrested a 15-year-old juvenile male who was booked and transported to the Adams County Juvenile Detention facility. The juvenile male was arrested for investigation of first degree murder. Because of his status as a juvenile, his name is not being released,” the Thornton Police Department said in a statement released Sunday.
Campbell was reported missing late Wednesday night after walking with the boy during a rainstorm near 12900 block of Colorado Boulevard, the Thornton Police Department said.
Kiaya Campbell was walking from her father’s home in the 12400 block of Forest Drive with a 15-year-old friend to a shopping center near East 136th Avenue and Colorado Boulevard about 7 p.m., police said.
Because of the boy’s age, Police have not yet confirmed if the suspect is the father’s girlfriend’s son.
