PICTURED: LA Man Arrested Over Killing 12-Year-Old During POLICE CHASE

Louisiana State Police say they have arrested Joshual Hilton, the man who allegedly struck and killed a 12-year-old boy during a police chase.

Hilton, 32, of Baton Rouge, LA., was arrested and charged with manslaughter, reckless operation, and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. It’s not the first time Hilton has been involved in a police chase, (read below.)

The current incident happened on Wednesday, May 31 around 530 p.m. on Old Hammond Hwy. The initial police chase stemmed from a narcotics investigation that started on O’Neal Ln. south of I-12, according to officials. Hilton reportedly fled from police and a chase ensued. During the chase, Sammy Lee was struck as he was trying to run across the road. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Hilton was reportedly injured after he was shot by police. h/t

BRPD Chief Carl Dabadie released the following statement Wednesday evening:

We feel confident that the state police will investigate this incident fully as per our Memorandum Of Understanding. However, in the midst of the investigation, we feel we should acknowledge the tragedy in which a child lost his life as a result of the suspect’s actions. Our heart goes out to the family at this difficult time.

Hilton was arrested in September, 2016 after East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office detectives obtained a search warrant for a resident on Silverest Ave. They attempted to make a traffic stop on the owner of the residence, Joshual Hilton, while on Old Hammond Hwy. Hilton refused to stop his vehicle.

During the pursuit, Hilton was observed throwing bottle of liquid promethazine out of the window of his vehicle. Those bottles were later recovered. After a short pursuit, Hilton jumped out of his vehicle and fled on foot on Holt Dr. With the assistance of EBRSO SCAT and BRPD officers, officials were able to apprehend Hilton and enter the residence to execute the warrant.

Officials found the following items within the home:

5.2 pounds of marijuana (high grade)
4.4 pounds of methamphetamine (2 kilos)
22 pints of promethazine syrup
Glock 23 40 cal (stolen through BRPD)
$36,739

Hilton was booked on the following charges:

Distribution and manufacturing of a schedule I drug
Distribution and manufacturing of a schedule II drug
Distribution and manufacturing of a schedule V drug
Possession of a firearm with drugs
Felon in possession of a firearm
Illegal possession of a stolen firearm
Aggravated flight from an officer
