Jahqui Sevilla, a survivor of the Orlando Pulse nightclub shooting and a member of the Orlando Anarchy women’s football team, died Monday in a head-on crash. She was 20.
A local athlete, Sevilla was well-known to the area and the nation after she appeared on multiple news reports following the attack. She would later ride on the Pulse tribute float in the 2017 Rose Parade in Pasadena, California.
Troopers said Seevilla was driving southbound on State Road 417 near University Boulevard at about 12:30 a.m. Monday when she lost control of her Mitsubishi Lancer, crossed the median and crashed head-on into a northbound Dodge Durango driven by Soroya Matias-Roth, 53, of Lakeland. The collision killed both women, investigators said. wftv
Troopers said they’re still trying to determine whether alcohol was a factor in the crash.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends at this difficult time.
