A 13-year-old Landstown Middle School student has been charged after ‘suspicious materials’ were found to be bomb making materials. The materials were located in the student’s locker, according to the Virginia Beach Fire Department.
Eileen Cox, the spokesperson for the Virginia Beach Public Schools said that administrators from the school contacted police on Friday, May 5, following a report that there may be suspicious materials in the student’s locker.
Cox would not provide details on what was found inside the locker, but says “appropriate disciplinary action is being taken at the school, and that the principal communicated with parents via an Alert Now phone call.” The student has since been charged.
Cox says in that message, the principal encouraged parents to remind their children of the importance of sharing information school officials when they become aware of it.
