The man who famously played Star Wars‘ sassy robot, R2-D2, Kenny Baker, has passed away. He was 83 years old. Baker was also known for his key role in hit movie, Time Bandits.
Baker died Saturday after a long time illness. Further details about his illness were not immediately available.
Baker’s niece, Abigail Shield told the paper that “It was expected, but it’s sad nonetheless. He had a very long and fulfilled life. He brought lots of happiness to people and we’ll be celebrating the fact that he was well loved throughout the world. We’re all very proud of what he achieved in his lifetime.” h/t nerdist
In recent years, Baker worked the convention circuit, where he regularly met fans and signed autographs.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Baker’s family and friends at this difficult time.
