Les Miserables actor, Kyle Jean-Baptiste has died after falling from a fire escape at his mother’s residence. He was 21.
The Broadway theater company where Jean-Baptiste appeared in Les Miserables confirmed his death in a statement.
“The entire Les Miserables family is shocked and devastated by the sudden and tragic loss of Kyle, a remarkable young talent and tremendous person who made magic – and history – in his Broadway debut,” the company said. “We send our deepest condolences to his family and ask that you respect their privacy in this unimaginably difficult time.” h/t ew
Jean-Baptiste was the very first black actor to play Jean Valjean on Broadway. He was also the youngest star to do so.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jean-Baptiste’s family and friends at this difficult time.
