Brain Eating Amoeba Found In Louisiana WATER SUPPLY

Health officials have confirmed the presence of the Naegleria fowleri amoeba in an area of Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana, officials have confirmed.

Sources say Travers Mackel the so-called “brain-eating amoeba” was detected in the Montegut area.

Terrebonne Parish officials said a 60-day chlorine burn will begin to help ensure that any remaining amoeba in the system are eliminated. While tap water in the affected area is safe for residents to drink, health officials urge residents to avoid getting water in their noses. The brain-eating amoeba occurs naturally in freshwater and can make its way to homes through distribution systems. h/t wdsu

According to health officials, brain-eating amoeba infections are extremely rare, but can occur when temperatures rise.
