The bomb squad is on scene after an under-sand explosion at the Salty Brine State Beach in Narragansett, R.I., sent a woman several feet in the air and into some rocks.
Reps for the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management told reporters the beach was evacuated around noon on Saturday after an explosion occurred just after 11:15 a.m.
DEM crews were called after several 911 calls were received by Narragansett police and fire departments for reports of a possible explosion, rocks shifting and reports of a woman in her 50’s who was thrown several feet into the air from the sand, possibly hitting the rocks. The woman was transported by rescue and her condition is not known at this time. DEM says the explosion came from under the sand and the bomb squad was called in. h/t turnto10
