**UPDATE BELOW** Ronnie Adrian “Jay” Towns is in custody after turning himself in to Telfair County Sheriffs. The Runions, who are from Marietta, drove about three hours to McRae, Georgia, on Thursday to meet Towns after he responded to Bud Runion’s ad seeking a 1966 Mustang.
Deputies say the 28-year-old is charged with giving false statements and criminal attempt to commit theft by deception. He hasn’t been charged in connection to the couple’s disappearance.
Investigators said the phone number that Bud Runion, 69, and his 66-year-old wife, June, used to reach Towns was traced back to a disposable cellphone. Steverson said Towns was interviewed and information he provided didn’t match what investigators know of the case, which led to the charges. h/t wyff4
Family members became concerned when the couple didn’t come back or answer calls, so they filed a missing persons report.
