WOW! Talk about a departure from prior broadcasts! The folks putting on this year’s Grammy Awards will marry 34 gay couples live on-air..
The producers behind the live telecast are hoping for a big show-stopper by the on-air wedding of 34 couples —
gay, straight, old, young, of many races and many colors, reports the NY Times.
The ceremony will be part of the hip-hop duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’s performance of their Grammy-nominated song “Same Love,” which became a marriage-equality anthem last year just as that issue was drawing intense national attention.
Grammy organizers have acknowledged that controversy might be inevitable, given those who oppose gay marriage or those who might see the stunt in many ways trivializes what otherwise is a fairly serious matter.
