Chris Berman, the epic “he-could-go-all-the-way!” ESPN sportscaster, lost his father today. James Berman, 89, was an avid football fan and is credited with instilling the football bug into his son.
Berman reps did not disclose the cause of death.
Berman is currently on a leave of absence from broadcasting to tend to his father. This absence including tonight’s NFL Monday Night Football telecast.
“Condolences to the family of Chris Berman on the loss of his father, James. Chris’ father was a great fan of the NFL …,” ESPN tweeted.
Adding: “And he passed that love and enthusiasm on to his sons. Chris thanks everyone for their support and will be back next weekend.”
Our thoughts go out to Papa Burman’s family and friends at this difficult time.
