MCDUFFIE COUNTY, GA. (THECOUNT) — Tony Fulwood Sr., of Dearing, Georgia, has been identified as the victim in a fatal hit-and-run crash early Sunday morning in McDuffie County, according to the coroner’s office. Fulwood was 53.
The incident occurred along the 3100 block of Augusta Highway in McDuffie County. Authorities said Fulwood was struck by a vehicle under circumstances that remain under investigation.
According to officials, 911 received a call at approximately 4:40 a.m. reporting a body on the side of the roadway. Emergency personnel responded to the scene shortly thereafter.
Fulwood was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:11 a.m., according to the coroner.
Authorities have classified the incident as a hit-and-run. No information regarding the suspect vehicle or driver has been released.
An autopsy has been scheduled for later this week as part of the ongoing investigation.
Augusta Highway is a major route running through McDuffie County, connecting local communities including Dearing and Thomson. The roadway is frequently traveled by both local and regional traffic, including early morning commuters.
The Georgia State Patrol and the McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
