Some adventurous fishermen reeled in a 1,300-plus-pound shortfin mako shark Monday off the coast of posh Huntington Beach in Southern California.

The Texas anglers hooked the shark about 15 miles offshore and it took over two hours to tire him out and reel him in..

“It’s unreal. This thing is definitely a killing machine,” Johnston said. “Any wrong step and I could have went out of the boat and to the bottom of the ocean.”

The shark will now be certified in Gardena, Ca., then it will be donated to a research organization for study.
