Car Dealer Sacked for Wearing Packers Tie

Jay Cutler may have gotten heat from fans, the media and former players, but at least he didn’t get fired.

Chicago car salesman, John Stone, was fired from his job Monday at John Webb Chevrolet following the Green Bay Packers victory over the hometown Bears on Monday for wearing a Green Bay Packers tie. Stone, 34, was on with the Dan Patrick Show this morning and discussed why he wore it. “I wore the tie because of my grandmother,” said Stone. “We buried her last Friday. I thought it would be awesome to wear it one more time in remembrance.”

Even death wasn’t enough to sway Stone’s boss; however, as he fired Stone for refusing to take the tie off.  Jerry Roberts, the general manager at John Webb Chevrolet, contends that it was the business relationship that the dealership had with the Bears that called for the dismissal.

“I don’t feel that it was appropriate for him to go in directly in contrast with an advertising campaign that we spend a lot of money on,” Roberts told WGN.

It turns out Stone’s ending was a lot happier than the Bears. Upon reading about his plight, Stone was hired at, you guessed it, another Chevrolet dealership.  GM of Chevrolet of Homewood, Guy Cesario, was impressed by the way Stone carried himself throughout the ordeal and quickly hired him.

“Good salesman are real hard to find right now,” Cesario said. “You could tell he’s a really good salesman.”
